Job Description
A phlebotomist specializes in collecting and transporting blood specimens. These technicians work with other health care team members and help patients feel more comfortable when giving blood or having a sample collected. The technician is often the only link between the patient and the medical lab.
Training Opportunities
140 total hours (40 classroom instruction & 100 clinical) - Students will study anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system; venipuncture skin puncture; coagulation theory; equipment and order of draw; and infection control and safety. Upon successful completion of this program, students are qualified to take a certifying exam from an approved organization for formal certification.

This non-credit healthcare program prepares applicants to sit for certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry. Upon successful completion of the program and the exam, the graduate is eligible for employment opportunities with various healthcare agencies, i.e., hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, community clinics. As a phlebotomist, the individual is successfully prepared to draw blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis.
